Returning to Schenectady, New York for his carnival show as a motorcycle stunt driver, Luke (Ryan Gosling) meets up again with Romina (Eva Mendes), a girl he thought was his, but who now has a new boyfriend – despite secretly giving birth to Luke's son. But Luke isn't giving up, deciding to find the money to support what he considers his new family - and the urgency of his precarious financial situation causes him to make bad choices and clash with Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper), an ambitious young cop who wants to do better than his DA father. 15 years later, the sons of the motorcyclist and the cop – now a politician campaigning for the senate – find their paths crossing...

Ryan Gosling trades the steering wheel of Drive for the handle bars of a motorcycle to ride at full speed the twisting route of a complicated life. But once he hands the plot over to Bradley Cooper, it's Luke's son who continues the story of a life that spans two decades. A kind of dramatic relay race in three parts, each one with a very different rhythm, combining into a suspenseful whole.
