The Woman in Black
A young notary from London travels to a village in the north and discovers a haunted manor. Starring Daniel Radcliffe.
At the end of the 19th century, Arthur Kipps, a young notary from London and widowed father, is sent to a village in northern England to put the inheritance of a rich client in order. The inhabitants of this remote village, many of whom have lost their children to violent death, make it clear he is not welcome. Once in the isolated manor going through his dead client's papers, Kipps realizes the place is haunted...
With several scenes sure to frighten the audience quite nicely, this homage to gothic horror movies set in Victorian England – produced by Hammer Films in the 1950's and 60's – is a great success. It will take a few more successes before Daniel Radcliffe is free of his Harry Potter label if he is to avoid the career turns of Mark Hamill and Linda Blair, who were forever linked by audiences to their first movies: Star Wars and The Exorcist respectively.
