After an emergency landing, a father and son (Will and Jaden Smith) attempt to survive on Earth.

To fix his difficult relationship with his son, legendary general Cypher Raige takes the boy with him on a mission. But during the trip, their spaceship collides with an asteroid storm, crashing on Earth, which was abandoned by humans more than 1000 years ago. Severely wounded, Cypher is stuck in the spaceship, so Kitai goes in search of a working emergency transmitter. Former wunderkind M. Night Shyamalan has had a hard time living up to his initial success. Unfortunately, After Earth won’t help his reputation either. The superficial father-son story, even camouflaged as a sci-fi thriller, underlines the director’s inability to recapture his erstwhile artistic glory.
