Eltern
Robert Thalheim’s movie about the complicated life of a German urban family.
There’s a children’s party to organize, someone desperately has to pee while in the car, or Specky the hamster needs an honorable funeral: as the dad, Konrad always has the right answer for every situation. Other mothers envy Christine, who works as a nurse, for having such a perfect house husband. But now Konrad want to take up theater directing again, so they hire a nanny. But she quickly turns up pregnant. Will she keep the baby? Konrad and Christine end up with more responsibility than before, which affects their relationship.
All things end at some point, but whether Konrad and Christine are at the end of their relationship is left open. Eltern lies somewhere between comedy and drama. An observation of the modern concept of family, in which family values and professional self-realization remain on a direct collision course.
