Mud
Two teens meet an escaped prisoner hiding on a small island in the Arkansas marshlands.
Ellis and Neckbone, two 14-year-old friends living in the Mississippi bayou of Arkansas, discover a boat stuck in some tree branches on an island in the marshes. In this boat hides a man called Mud (Matthew McConaughey), who’s on the run from the law. Constantly fighting with his parents, Ellis admires Mud’s courage, who has returned to the area to fight for his love, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon). Ellis does all he can to help Mud escape from the police with Juniper at his side...
Mud happily mixes all kinds of genres: both a passionate adventure set in deepest America and a moving love story, in the final analysis Mud is especially a superb fable about coming of age and losing one’s innocence, halfway between Mark Twain and the classic The Night of the Hunter. In the wake of his two remarkable debuts, Shotgun Stories and Take Shelter, the young director Jeff Nicols proves once again he is one to watch out for.
