Nymphomaniac Part 2
The sequel to Nymphomaniac sees Joe as mother and homemaker.
Having fallen into the net of banal love with Jérôme, Joe quickly finds herself as a mother and homemaker, torn by her desires and her need for freedom. She eventually learns to accept her condition, even to embrace it and defend it against those who reject it. As Joe’s story ends, her real nature reveals itself.
Lars Von Trier fears nothing, not even being reviled. Out of pure arrogance, or perhaps because his eyes are bigger than his brain, he has failed spectacularly with his umpteenth auteur film. It is convoluted and pompous, incapable of responding to expectations and even exceeding the scope of Von Trier's usual need to provoke. Although it's more successful than the original, thanks to a lead character who finally gains depth, this sequel nevertheless doesn't make any more sense. One can only hope that the long version of both films together, due out in some countries this year, will clarify the great mystery that is this project.
