Paradies: Hoffnung
In the wake of "Paradies: Liebe" and "Paradies: Glaube", the third part of Ulrich Seidl's trilogy.
While 13-year-old Melanie's mother is in search of love within Kenya's vacation sex trade in Paradies: Liebe, Melanie is on “holiday” at a fat farm. Her aunt (Maria Hofstätter), who is searching for God's love in Paradies: Glaube, takes her to the camp, located in a forest. From the beginning, the camp's coach (Michael Thomas) makes it clear to the teenage attendees that their lives will be all about discipline.
The last part of Ulrich Seidl's trilogy about the unfulfilled hopes and dreams of three women. His inimitably strict, pseudo-documentary style, which captures their daily lives in long, static and carefully framed tableaux vivants, corresponds to the prison-like order in the camp. Instead of breaking boundaries or testing the audience's limits for emotional pain, this time Seidl's film holds back and is almost harmless.
