Five years ago, Nikki found her husband Garrett drowned on a Mexican beach. Ari Posin hasn’t had any public projects since his debut, The Chumscrubber, a nice teen movie that deserves more recognition than it got. His second venture, The Face of Love, has also been released too quietly. With its authentic sensitivity, it offers a nuanced portrait of a woman full of tenderness and contradictions – the perfect vehicle for Annette Bening, who is supported by the equally wonderful Ed Harris. It’s too bad that the screenplay slips in the last part, after Tom finds out what’s going on, through to the epilogue, which is overdone in the style of a typical Hollywood melodrama.
