Movie Rating: Geoffrey Crété

Out on parole, 50-year-old Victoria goes to live in an old cabin in the woods, far from the stress of the city and other people. Boxed in by Guillaume, her parole officer, she is soon joined by Florence, a young friend woman she met in prison, where they were lovers. Florence is also trying to get her life back together, but ghosts from her past threaten to turn up and destroy their fragile equilibrium…

Québécois director Denis Côté’s quirky film oscillates between a tender and glacial ambiance. Articulated around the portrait of two marginal and unshakable women, this drama with burlesque accents spares no embellishment in filming its actresses – Canadian Pierrette Robitaille and French actress Romane Bohringer. A duo with a troubling charm who doesn’t make it easy to access this movie that is hard to identify, full of oddities, strangeness and a touching freedom. But in the end, the handling of the story and its characters is sometimes intimate but also very distant and emotionless, turning this melancholy movie too cold to be convincing.
