The Algerian manager of a Starbucks and a Malian who’s arrived for a job interview butt heads.

When she discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, Amelle promises herself to train the next man she seduces. Meanwhile, Noom, ridiculed by his latest conquest, decides to get back into the game. The two meet by chance at Starbucks, where she’s the manager and he’s applying for a job. They don't fall quickly, but they fall hard. And there are obstacles to overcome: embarrassing colleagues, meddling friends and different cultures – she is from Algeria and he is from Mali.

Bad comedies have certain characteristics: laughs are rare, characters are annoying and the plot uninteresting. Amour sur place ou à emporter, adapted from the play by Fabrice Eboué, unfortunately meets all these conditions. Full of exasperating clichés and humor so basic it’s embarrassing, this debut by Amelle Chahbi, who also wrote the screenplay with her co-star Noom Diawara, unites the worst aspects of the modern rom-com. A good reason to nominate Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait au bon Dieu, another loopy movie about the clash of cultures with the same star, as a future film classic.
