Harlem, New York. 10-year-old Annie Bennett waits in an orphanage for the return of her parents, while suffering each day the terrible Miss Hannigan, who is charged with caring for her and the other abandoned little girls. By chance Annie meets Will Stacks, a rich businessman who want to become mayor and saves her from being run over on the street – as witnessed by passersby. The media takes up the story and Stacks’ media team convinces him to take Annie in for the votes. But in the end, Annie will have a much greater affect on him…

A Hollywood fairy tale in all its splendor: introduced to audiences in the wonderful independent film Beasts of the Southern Wild, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, Quvenzhané Wallis takes the lead in this remake of the popular musical Annie, supported by the talents of Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. Unfortunately, the movie, killed by the critics after being a victim of the Sony Studios hack, saw tepid box office sales that was far from the expected success story – despite a Golden Globes nomination for the 11-year-old actress. No great surprise then that this musical comedy is watered-down, unbalanced and blows hot and cold, as evidenced by a cartoonish Cameron Diaz, who seems to be in a completely different movie. Annie never really finds the right tone. After finding success with the irreverent Easy A, director Will Gluck continues his Hollywood descent in the wake of the disposable Friends with Benefits, as affirmed by the overblown helicopter chase at the end, which seems only to be there to underline the movie’s price tag.
