10 years after a simian flu pandemic, a handful of survivors try to reconstruct society in San Francisco.

10 years have passed since the deadly ALZ-113 virus ravaged the world’s population. One group of survivors attempts to reconstruct society in the ruins of San Francisco. But when they go in search of a hydroelectric dam they hope will serve as a power source, they encounter a group of apes led by Caesar. While he does everything he can to keep the peace between humans and apes, another member of his clan is set on destroying mankind once and for all...

Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) didn’t have to apply a lot of craft to do better than 2011’s The Rise of the Planet of the Apes . All he needed was characters who are a little more simple and therefore credible, played by actors who are more understated and therefore solid, to make this sequel a real movie. It meets the specifications of the summer blockbuster to the letter, with spectacular scenes, impressive special effects and Hollywood dramaturgy – plus a less-than-subtle hint here and there that there will be yet another sequel. Not revolutionary, just a well-made blockbuster.
