Le père Noël
Tahar Rahim stars as a fake Santa. On Christmas Eve, Antoine goes to bed dreaming of presents brought to him by Father Christmas, who offers him a ride in his sleigh and lets him see his recently deceased father. His dream seem to miraculously come true when Santa turns up on his balcony. Except it's a burglar in a suit, in the midst of a series of break-ins for a mob boss. But Antoine, sure that this is his chance, decides to follow Santa whatever the cost, even if it means becoming an accessory …
In his first movie, Une pure affaire, Alexandre Coffre gave his characters a suitcase full of cocaine for Christmas. His second was the popular hit Eyjafjallajökull, starring Dany Boon. Now he’s back with the holiday theme, toned down as a fable for children. The result is naïve, of lesser quality, and aimed at kids in search of a simplistic adventure, with good vibes, easy laughs and tears that aren’t too serious. It’s not easy to be hard on Père Noël: there is no cynicism, its world is sweet and optimistic, and it lives up to the message of its poster. Viewers will get exactly what they are expecting and won’t be disappointed.
