12th century China. The invincible, merciless demon kings are terrorizing the empire. Pascal Morelli has not done much since 2001’s Corto Maltese in Siberia, a dark and dense animated film that was praised by critics but ignored by the public. Clearly targeted towards children, The Prince and the 108 Demons is neither strong nor attractive enough to do the job. This is due to an uninspired story – adapted from the Chinese novel “Water Margin” – but mainly also to the unbalanced drawings, which waver from detailed landscapes with good character to flat and unattractive faces. An adventure with no real charm.
