Employed at an adult training center, Marithé is confronted by new faces one morning, among them the odd Carole, who slips out again without giving any explanation. This sets off a long series of lies and results in a strange friendship based on dreams, disillusions, affairs and surprises...

After gaining fame with the surprise success of Invités de mon père in 2010, actress turned director Anne Le Ny didn't let herself be slowed down by the failure of Cornouaille, her first movie with a female lead. On a failli être amies has two top stars, but unfortunately for them what starts out well enough as a double portrait of interesting characters turns into a bland piece of vaudeville that is less modern than hoped. Karin Viard and Emmanuelle Devos, together for the first time after each working separately with Le Ny, are charming if not surprising.
