Ouija USA 2014 – 89min.
Movie Rating
Ouija
After the inexplicable suicide of their friend Debbie, Elaine and her friends find a Ouija board in her room. Determined to try and contact her and find out why she died, they use the board in the place she was found to communicate with the spirit world. What they don’t know is that they are about to awaken obscure forces and dark secrets…
Taking in 10 times its production costs at the box office in the US, Ouija joins the ranks of bad horror flicks that connect with audiences who want nothing more than a few chills down their spine. This debut by Stiles White, whose previous experience includes special effects work on projects as diverse as Interview With The Vampire, The Sixth Sense and Jurassic Park III, is horrifically boring. The story would be stupid if it weren’t already hackneyed, and is surprisingly lacking in shocking or scary scenes, or even ghosts, while the few deaths are neither funny nor frightening and are dealt with quickly. A better movie would be the horror classic Insidious, which also features actress Lin Shaye.
