Out of Nature
Family man, husband, employee, friend: for almost 40 years, Martin seems to have been failing in every role in his life. He cannot stand his daily life, he is no longer attracted to his wife and he no longer feels the urge to be with his son. On a whim, he decides to escape into the mountains for a weekend. A solitary walk in the green nature of Norway, where he will put his life and desires into perspective.
An entire movie centered on an almost silent man in the Norwegian countryside, with a continuous monologue about his dreary existence: Out of Nature is short at just 1:20. It is a curious kind of journey, simplistic and sometimes absurd. The uninterrupted inner voice of the main character, which contains the entire plot of the film and lends the adventure a bittersweet atmosphere, shares his moods without separating the serious from the comedic. This gap between the big picture (the impressive set) and intimate (the inner speech, including the importance of sexuality) creates a special atmosphere that easily captivates the audience. Almost alone on the screen, in addition to co-directing with Marte Vold, Ole Giæver brings a refreshing energy to this ordinary man.
