Tout est permis
Documentary about bad drivers forced to take a remedial driving class.
When drivers lose their license or get too many tickets, they are invited to take part in a remedial class to get them back on the road to safe driving. There, all social and cultural divisions are dropped in favor of a combined front against the judicial machine. Coline Serreau offers a portrait of our individualistic society, both funny and tragic.
Coline Serreau sat in on remedial safe driving classes over the course of two years, where participants were condemned to taking them if they wanted their licenses back. They see themselves as victims of the system, from hospitals to courts, as they offer both confessions and rants. The director of Solutions locales pour un désordre global doesn't waste time on embellishment for this very raw film about men and women who are too ordinary as they hide themselves behind astonishingly bad beliefs. Also along for the ride are sociologists, lawyers and scientists. The laudable approach unfortunately struggles to go beyond the obvious.
