Babysitting 2
Sonia wants to present Franck to her father Jean-Pierre, who is the founder of a luxury eco-tourism hotel in Brazil, so she organizes a trip with the whole gang. It’s a dream come true for the group of friends, all of them determined to make the best of beach and sun. Franck, who has decided to ask Sonia to marry him, runs afoul of his future father-in-law’s mistrust and of Sonia’s sour-tempered mother Yolande. To take his mind off the family troubles, Sam and Alex decide to take their best friend for an excursion into the jungle. Jean-Pierre insists they take Yolande with them. When the group disappears in the wilds, Sonia and the others find the camera that has filmed their adventures.
Warning: if you pay to watch this movie, be aware that you’ll be partly to blame for any future sequels. One and a half years after the surprising success of the first film, the directors Nicolas Benamou and Philippe Lacheau (who also acts for the first time) team up again for Babysitting 2, which is as likable and superficial as the first one. This time the plot takes place in Brazil for a change of setting and to hide the thin plot of this second absurd adventure, replacing Parisian concrete with a tropical foliage, a pretext for more silly and mean bits of sketch comedy. If you overlook the lack of originality, the crass formula and the heavy-handed morals, there are a few giggles, even laughs. Unoriginal, but effective.
