Insurgent
Haunted by the brutal death of her parents and her friend Will, whom she had to fight to survive, Tris is in hiding with Four, Peter and Caleb within the Amity faction. As they prepare to revolt, Jeanine gets her hands on a mysterious box that holds a message from the founders, which she must open at any price to strengthen her position. But because only one Divergent is able to open the box, Jeanine launches a wide-scale operation to capture the rebels. With an alliance between Dauntless and the factionless, Tris discovers that only she can open the precious box…
There was a lot to get through in the first installment in the franchise – the ham-fisted presentation of a boring universe; the schmaltzy love story; the dumb soundtrack – so luckily this second one is enjoyable:. Bigger, tougher and more fun, the sequel leaves behind the ludicrous folklore of the first episode, taking off with a heroine that is more interesting in her role as emerging warrior, a new antagonist at the head of the revolt, the arrival of Naomi Watts to somewhat legitimize the enterprise, and thankfully the mushy love story is relegated to the background. A daring scenario that takes on the issue of disintegration (of the world, orientation, individuality, and Tris’ personality) across a variety of very spectacular set-ups. Despite its clumsy twist reminiscent of The Maze Runner, Divergent 2: Insurrection reaches the level of the very good Hunger Games: less intense than Catching Fire but more balanced than Mockingjay Part 1.
