Looking for Her

Movie Rating: Geoffrey Crété

Abandoned by her mother at birth, Elisa is desperate to meet her. Having traced her to Dunkirk, she learns that the latter does not wish to reveal her identity. Unable to move forward in her life as a mother and wife, Elisa decides to move to Dunkirk with his son Noah. She works as a physiotherapist activity and attempts to start a new life, without suspecting that her path will finally cross that of her biological mother...

Looking for Her lives through the magnificent performances of its leads, Céline Sallette and Anne Benoit: beautiful and moving, both sweet and bitter. Former actress (Olivier Assayas’s Paris s’éveille in 1991) turned director Ounie Lecompte had a moving debut with Une vie toute neuve, about an adopted Korean child. The theme of the absent family and uprooting is again at the center of the story, this time set in France. With great sensitivity (she films the body and physical therapy with great skill), Lecompte overcomes the sometimes artificial story that relies too much on coincidences and expected events for a result that is emotional and goes right to the heart.
