In the beginning, there were forests in Europe: a great playground and home to all animals. After 80,000 years of ice age, the seasonal cycle set itself up, the landscape was transformed, and flora and fauna evolved under the eyes of the first men. Seasons tells the story of a rich and varied life threatened by human society and its growth.

Ten or twenty years ago, Seasons would have been a very good movie. Today it is antiquated, even cheesy. At a time when global warming and a sustainable environment are part of common vocabulary and daily life, a film about baby animals and nature ruined by man seems unnecessary. Unnecessary because the subject has already been explored in depth in a variety of movies (Oceans, Blue Planet The White Planet, Home Earth), and unnecessary because the link between human society and the destruction of nature is not clearly established beyond a few abstract images of plants and cultivated land. Instead of connecting capitalism to the destruction of animal life in hopes of inspiring people to take action at their own level, Seasons lets the audience leave with a clear conscience, convinced it belongs to the good guys who don’t wish any harm on the adorable lynxes or marmots on screen for nearly two hours. A dangerous result for a film trying to be activist. Save your money and instead see Tomorrow, which is less simplistic.
