Mune, le gardien de la lune
In a magical world where all balance is based on the sun and moon, Mune, a little cute, irresponsible little faun is promoted to Guardian of the Moon against his will. And so he finds himself in charge of bringing on the night and guarding the world of dreams. But he causes one disaster after another, giving the Guardian of Darkness a chance to steal the sun. Together with Sohone, the proud Guardian of the Sun, and the delicate Cire, a female gnome who dreams of seeing the world, Mune sets out on a remarkable quest that will turn him into a legend.
This beautiful tale by Benoît Philippon and Alexandre Heboyan - who collaborated on Kung-Fu Panda - is a dreamily genuine success. The animation is as cute as it is poetic and intelligent. It makes you think and lets you dream; a balance that’s often difficult to find in the annual competitive offerings from the big animation studios. Mune plays in a league of its own, far better than the others of its genre and it also doesn’t talk down to kids. Visually, the dichotomy between the world of the sun and the world of the moon beautifully shapes the story. The passage from one to the other is mastered perfectly, without one false note. Mune, le gardien de la lune takes the audience to a sensitive, enchanted world. And Mune, with his big eyes, his elongated silhouette and his blue fur, looks suspiciously like a secret cousin of our old Na’vis friends from Avatar. Is there a hidden link?
