Traumatized by the death of one of his friends during a motorcycle race in extreme conditions, Johnny Utah decides to return to a more sensible path and joins the FBI. When he discovers that his superiors are investigating a series of incredible robberies orchestrated by top athletes, he realizes they are trying to complete the Ozaki 8, a list of eight extraordinary events that honor nature. Utah is therefore sent undercover to France, the setting of their next attempt. There he finds himself drawn against his will into the criminal activities of a group hopped up adrenaline…

A remake of Point Break, the cult movie by Kathryn Bigelow (who has since won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker) starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze was more than unnecessary. This version by Ericson Core (in development for years, with a release pushed back) therefore gets off to a bad start. What it does do to impress the audience is deploy considerable energy in the form of a number of explosively spectacular action scenes (dirt biking, surfing, snowboarding, base jumping, sky diving). Unfortunately, this Point Break offers nothing new. While Edgar Ramirez has been a good actor elsewhere, he plays his character much like his colleagues do – without nuance or shading, stuck with a rough script full of stereotypes and devoid of ideas. Audiences should expect nothing more than a few minutes of sensational extreme sports clips from this otherwise dull production.
