Qui c'est les plus forts?
A year after the factory where she worked closed, Samantha is still looking for a job in the small town where she lives, helped along by her former colleague and best friend Céline, who lives with her and makes money by offering phone sex. But Samantha’s real mission is Kim, her little sister, who hasn’t gotten over the fact that their mother died in a car accident, and who since suffers from behavioral problems. Because social services requires Samantha to have a job contract to keep custody of Kim, Samantha is desperately trying to find a solution. Then she meets a couple who may have one, and it sounds to good to be true…
In the wake of her critical look at body shaming and the society’s fixation on lost pounds in the comedy Mince alors!, director/actress Charlotte de Turckheim gets more serious and subtle in Qui c’est les plus forts?. It’s an intelligent look at modern problems: joblessness, closed factories, homosexual couples, surrogate mothers. A lot to take on for a simple, comedy aimed at a wide-ranging audience, but it does so with sensitivity and sincerity, as de Turckheim demonstrates real know-how in dealing with a predictable screenplay. The director has less luck in casting, starting with the charming but sometimes awkward Alice Pol, who is helped along by Audrey Lamy, who does what she know best. Qui c’est les plus forts ? is more than just a comedy; it is a thousand times better and more intelligent than many others in its genre.
