Dad in Training
Nearly forty years old, with an bad marriage and two little girls that he neglects, Antoine is still struggling to realize his dream to break into music. Believing he has found a wonderful young singer, he does his best to record a demo that will convince producers of their talent. One day he decides to leave his wife Alice to regain his freedom and bet everything on his dreams...
In the series of one-man-show movies starring Manu Payet, Dad in Training is undoubtedly better than Relationship Status: It's Complicated (which he co-directed) or Un début prometteur by Emma Luchini. Simpler, more sober, less concerned about trying to please than about telling something, Cyril Gelblat’s movie hits its mark. It is humble and has enough drive and soul to reach its target audience, thanks to the presence of Aure Atika (funnier than usual) and Audrey Lamy (more moving than ever). The formula is still very simple, never really digging in its claws, but it is clear that it is executed with great efficiency.
