Truman
When he learns that the cancer of his old friend Julian has become very serious, Tomas decides to return to Madrid, after not coming to visit him for years. Because Julian has decided to stop all treatment to calmly face death, Tomas remains at his side, accompanying him in his efforts and helping him with his questions. Among them: the fate of Julian’s dog Truman, whom he considers his child.
Truman was a big hit in Spain, winning five Goyas for best film, director, script, actor, and supporting. Not astonishing, since it has all the ingredients for success. Flirting with melodrama without sinking into depression, director Cesc Gay, who was inspired by the death of his own mother, tells an ordinary story with humor and simplicity that resonates with audiences that like to cry. Javier Cámara (Talk to Her ) and especially the excellent Ricardo Darín (The Secret in Their Eyes) make the movie, which otherwise offers nothing more than what is expected.
