Washington, September 2004. CBS producer Mary Mapes brings together a strong team to investigate the military past of George W. Bush. An explosive subject that claims the current president of the United States, who is up against John Kerry in the next election, benefited from family and political connections to avoid the Vietnam War, before going AWOL during military service between 1968 and 1974. But after the report is broadcast by star anchor Dan Rather, the veracity of the documents and testimony come into question and trigger a media firestorm...

Spotlight by Tom McCarthy handily won the battle between prestigious Hollywood movies in honor of journalists with a Best Picture Oscar. But that doesn’t mean Truth should be forgotten: also based on a true story, it went unnoticed in theaters and in the running for awards, but the first film by James Vanderbilt (known for writing the screenplay for Zodiac) is at least as well made as Spotlight. Even more, since there is a real breath of cinema in this thrilling film that takes makes the most of suspense and mise en scène. With an unsurprisingly gripping performance by Cate Blanchett, who lights up even the most stereotypical scenes.
