Antoine is famous for his film soundtracks. He flies to India, where he is supposed to compose the music for a version of Romeo and Juliet that a celebrated Indian director plans to shoot. During a dinner at the embassy, he meets Anna, the ambassador’s wife. Spiritual and naive, she is completely different from the big cynic Antoine. But there is a spark between them. When Anna decides to go for a mystic tour around India, Antoine joins her.

The magician Claude Lelouch is back from his long, 2007 desert journey, Roman de gare and, two years after Salaud, on t’aime, finds again both his strength and the lightness laced with violence that make his good films unclassifiable little miracles. The simplistic title, the common premise and the popularity of Jean Dujardin, who seems able to give life to a film all by himself, Un + Une appears to be impersonal and insignificant, much like Ange et Gabrielle and other romantic TV and big-screen movies. But far from it: right from the beginning, Lelouch takes his audience on a cinematic journey, shaking things up in the process. Dujardin is absolutely perfect in this tailor-made role and Elsa Zylberstein is excellent, enhancing a sophisticated script. Un + Une is a beautiful, romantic film and much too short.
