In the deserted, dark and desolate hills of Iceland, a suicidal man in a tie meets a lost German couple and a local hiking family. Without really choosing to, these seven individuals travel together, sharing their misfortunes and dispositions, for a small adventure that will transform their lives before they reach their destination.

Starting out as an absurd, comic, off-beat adventure, Welcome to Iceland is initially gripping and exciting. With humor and efficiency, Swiss director Felix Tissi places his oddball characters within a scenery so striking that becomes it own character – as the Icelandic landscape often does for outsiders. Too bad the result does not live up to its promises, instead gradually sinking into pulp, increasingly less enjoyable and barely touching at all.
