Burnt
Adam Jones, a renowned cook with a Paris education, has disappeared, beaten by his success, and by drugs and alcohol that supported his arrogance and his self-destructive tendencies. But now he is back on his feet and several years’ sober. He returns to London with an idea: getting a third Michelin star. To get there, he decides form a crack team: old enemies and new talents, all of them ready to put up with his explosive character in order to assist his incredible cooking talents.
Burnt is a strange film. Born under good auspices, with Bradley Cooper supported by a team of big names (Sienna Miller, Omar Sy, Daniel Brühl, Alicia Vikander, Emma Thompson and even Uma Thurman), Oscar nominated screenplay writer Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) and director John Wells (August: Osage County), the film changed its title twice (first Chef, then Adam Jones) and got a bad reputation, even though it once was in development by David Fincher. The final product is rather a waste of talent. It offers a nice but banal and typically Hollywood success story that is weakened by a character with a false bad boy attitude. Every scene of violent conflict is followed by one of reconciliation. A scene of intense rage in which Bradley Cooper explodes and proves his talent is made up for by three silly romances. It is therefore impossible to for the story to lead to one great victory at the end – it seems precooked and lacks flavor.
