Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
18 months after the titanic battle between Superman and Zod that devastated Metropolis, the city is trying to come to terms with him. Considered a demigod by some, Superman arouses fear in others, to the point of a Senate commission being ordered to determine what role he should play in the world. Convinced he is a potential enemy capable of leading mankind to destruction, Bruce Wayne aka Batman is determined to stop him at any price. Meanwhile, billionaire Lex Luthor takes advantage of the growing hatred between the two super-hero and starts his own war ...
Grandiose and operatic, Man of Steel revived the Superman franchise in 2013. Heavy and hollow, Batman v Superman kills it again. With three superheroes, a supervillain and two mythical cities to work with, filmmaker Zack Snyder (director of the excellent Watchmen) puts together a soft spectacle that connects vague scenes, supporting characters and overwritten dialogue into a rough symphony of destruction that is binary (good against evil, dark rain against colorful chaos) with little depth. Somehow, Snyder’s flamboyant staging fails to add soul to the story. As a result, it seems like one big, noisy Warner trailer, developed only to counter the lightness of the Avengers...
