Now head of the Avengers, Steve Rogers aka Captain America is on a mission to Africa to arrest a dangerous criminal with the help of the Black Widow, the Scarlet Witch and the Falcon. But the operation goes wrong and dozens of innocent people are killed. A tragedy that raises the issue of the superhero’s role in the modern world, including the consequences of their actions and their ability to act beyond their own borders. The US government then demands the Avengers agree to obey the United Nations to limit their actions and control the chaos. The superhero clan thus is divided: on one side, Tony Stark, convinced that the government is right; on the other, Steve Rogers, sure that the Avengers must be true to themselves...

Almost the whole team is reunited, along with the arrival of Spider-Man and Black Panther just before their own solo performances are about to be released. At over 2:30, the third movie in the Captain America franchise seems more like Avengers 2.5. Better yet: Civil War succeeds where Avengers: The Age of Ultron failed a year ago. This is an action-packed super-production, and a rickety but controlled plot reminiscent of the solid Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel productions would do better to forget the disposable bad guys and gargantuan climaxes. This clash of the superheroes offers the expected entertainment, including a few impressive moments and a good balance between its many characters, thanks to a tighter plot that focuses on them more skillfully. And because it works, in contrast with Batman v Superman (which dealt with the same issue, in addition to some internal fighting), Captain America: Civil War points out just how unconvincing Zack Snyder’s blockbuster was.
