C'est quoi cette famille
With six half-siblings and eight parents, Bastien, 13, has a complicated family life. Shuttled from home to home, he observes marriages, divorce disputes and adults in general. When his mother Sophie starts having relationship problems with her new husband Hugo, Bastien proposes a radical solution to his siblings: moving in together in the apartment of one of their dead grandmothers, and forcing their parents to come to them every week. New rules for a new kind of family.
Yet another comedy in the spirit of the times that, like The Roommates Party and Last Call for Nowhere, finds humor in the new normal: patchwork families, trivialized divorce, improbable siblings, and complications caused by these new models. The argument is potentially funny and off the wall, especially because director Gabriel Julien-Laferrière takes the view of the children, who hold a coup d’état to make the adults more responsible, and those adults are played by actors with well-known faces (Julie Gayet, Thierry Neuvic, Julie Depardieu, Lucien Jean-Baptiste, Claudia Tagbo, Philippe Katerine and Arie Almaleh). The movie starts out well enough, with good jokes and timing, but it soon becomes less convincing, even boring, and turns out to be very pointless at the end.
