René Myrha and Rose-Marie Pagnard were born in Delémont, Switzerland. In the 60s, they moved to Basel, where they took an active part in the city’s artistic life. Since 1985, they have shared their lives in Breuleux, in a former farmhouse converted into a bright workspace. Their respective works, visual expressions and fictional creations are born and raised in complicity. Wings and Shadows is part of a series of documentary films by Claude Stadelmann about Swiss men and women who create – through writing, sculpture and painting. In the wake of documentaries about Rémy Zaugg, the revue Trou, Rolf Iseli and Oscar Wiggli, Stadelmann focuses on the artistic couple René Myrha and Rose-Marie Pagnard. This look at their everyday lives, their methods and their world is intriguing and unexpected, especially as each offers a deeply interesting discussion about their discipline. However, this double portrait also seems too confidential to really be moving – especially since it often comes across as hagiography.
