Le fils de Jean

Movie Rating: Geoffrey Crété

Mathieu receives a call from Canada: the father he never knew has died. When he discovers that he has two brothers, he decides to go to Montreal to meet them before his father's funeral. But the existence of Mathieu was a secret, and his new extended family is not necessarily ready to meet him...

Don’t Worry, I'm Fine, Welcome, and All Our Desires have shown Philippe Lioret to be a filmmaker specializing in movies about damaged families who are torn apart by secrets and tested by life. Le Fils de Jean fits right in, making this aspect the most interesting about this project, which is less inspired and less captivating than the others. This can be blamed on lackluster narration and flat characters; despite a nice twist, the rest is average melodrama.
