Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
Inseparable brothers, Mike and Dave live to party. When their sister wants to get married at a fancy ceremony in Hawaii, their father insists they come with respectable dates, to avoid creating their usual catastrophe. The brothers’ solution is to post an online ad for perfect, elegant girls. Their offer catches the attention of Tatiana and Alice, two uncontrollable party babes who decide to play along for the free trip to Hawaii. Mike and Dave think they’ve hit the jackpot, until it all blows up in their faces and threatens to ruin their sister’s wedding...
What used to be considered crass and unbankable is now a normal genre: the rude, infantile comedy – especially thanks to the success of the Hangover trilogy starring Bradley Cooper. In just the past few months, The Boss, Neighbors 2 and Bad Moms have become some of the most profitable films of the year. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is built on the same formula of flippant, politically incorrect characters who jump from one crude punch line to another, with added spice in the form of sex and references to pop culture. There’s nothing new here, just the usual fare for fans of dumb and ridiculous entertainment that never really takes any risks. At least there are Anna Kendrick, and especially Aubrey Plaza. One of the best things about the Parks & Recreation TV series, Plaza puts her evil clown mask back on, reminding audiences how irresistible, brilliant and inimitable she is. These two actresses manage to overcome the sometimes very awkward scenes, offering a bright, unexpected spark to an otherwise formulaic flick.
