Los Angeles, 1977. Holland March, a widowed private detective unable to care for a daughter more adult than he is, investigates the death of a porn star. He tracks down Amelia, a teenager who has run away to save her life, and crosses paths with Jackson Healy, a thug implicated in the case through no fault of his own. The two men join forces to unravel the dark story behind a series of murders, even as the corpses pile up...

Shane Black is primarily the screenwriter of Lethal Weapon the quintessential buddy movie starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. It’s a formula he successfully recycled in 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, his directorial debut with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Skipping over the forgettable Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys, his third film, is also at the top of the genre. Two hours of total fun, directed with maddening precision, supported by a great script and excellent dialogue. Far from resting on its seventies look and the charisma of its stars, Black cleverly mixes action, humor and suspense with fantastically inventive scenes. With Russell Crowe comfortably placed in an expected role, Ryan Gosling reminds us he is very talented as a comic actor, significantly adding to the flavor of The Nice Guys – a movie that offers easy entertainment of a remarkable quality.
