Jacques has lost everything: his job, his wife, his pride, his regular life. In debt and stuck in a small town ruined by unemployment, he sees no way out. Until the day Gardot, a wealthy businessman who dabbles in Illegal things, offers him a job: to kill his adulterous wife. Jacques hesitates, then accepts when he discovers a solution to all their problems…

This is the second time this summer, in the wake of after Solveig Anspach’s The Aquatic Effect, that a movie of an up-and-coming French director has to be released posthumously. Pascal Chaumeil died in August, missing the on-screen debut of Odd Job, which reunites him with Romain Duris, who starred for him in 2010’s successful Heartbreaker. This film is less romantic and instead crazier, with Michel Blanc on hand as both screenwriter and co-star. This should have been good news, but apart from a few good dialogues and fun scenes, the movie lacks energy and imagination, especially because the narration is all-too superficial.
