Ava
Ava, 13, is on vacation by the ocean with her mother and her little sister. An introverted outsider, her life turns upside down when she learns she is losing her sight faster than expected. Because her mother decides to carry on so as not to spoil her daughter's vacation, Ava confronts things in her own way. Intrigued by a refugee boy she meets on the beach, she steals his big black dog...
For her debut film, Léa Mysius, co-screenwriter of Ismael’s Ghosts by Arnaud Depleschin, defends a very interesting position. From the first scene, set on a typical summer beach, she creates an off-beat, bewitchingly strange universe full of anguish. Ava has a real identity, clear in its staging, choice of music and direction of the actors. This portrait of a girl slowly being sucked in to the dark testifies to its director’s obvious talent. Thanks also to excellent performances by Noah Abita and Laure Calamy, Mysius has established herself as a name to follow closely.
