Saban's Power Rangers
In the small town of Angel Grove, five teenagers from different circumstances are united by a strange phenomenon. Jason, Kim, Billy, Trini and Zack discover mysterious artifacts buried in the ground that give them extraordinary powers. This leads them to an ancient spaceship where the mysterious Zordon explains to them that they have been chosen to be the new Power Rangers, charged with defending the planet. The dysfunctional group has to learn to work together and accept their differences as they battle Rita Repulsa, who wants to exterminate all life on Earth...
This Hollywood teen movie about the adventures of the Power Rangers is definitely not a good movie. On the plus side, this Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) super-production resurrects a popular TV series with the famous costumes, Mégazords, the unmistakable music, and the memorable Rita Repulsa, for a simplistic and inevitably kitschy adventure. While some bits are funny, the rest is awful, with unenthusiastic and uninventive action scenes, and a tone that alternates between serious and ridiculous (Elizabeth Banks). A weird and unnecessary movie.
