A new installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise, adapted from the book by Pierre Boulle and popularized by the cult movie of 1968. This trilogy, launched in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes concludes with War for the Planet of the Apes. Director Matt Reeves applies the same dynamic as for his 2014 release: amazing special effects (Caesar’s incredibly real look, incorporated by Andy Serkis), an apocalyptic world, discourse on humanity, and solid action scenes. From the start, War for the Planet of the Apes draws the audience in, thanks to its atmosphere and its staging, and definitely offers a good Hollywood spectacle. The machine is perfectly oiled – a little too much to offer real intensity, despite its depth of emotion and strong images. One may question the utility of this third installment, its true value beyond technological skill, and wonder if the trilogy will measure up to the other movies in the saga. But never mind, entertainment is assured.
