All That Breathes
In the Indian megacity of Delhi, pigs, dogs and monkeys jostle cheek-by-jowl with people. Here, brothers Saud and Nadeem run a makeshift bird hospital in their tiny basement, devotedly caring for the birds of prey that drop daily from the smog-shrouded sky. But since the Indian government introduced a controversial law that discriminates against Muslims, trouble has been brewing among the people, too. Filmmaker Shaunak Sen portrays two extraordinary brothers in a city on the verge of collapse, and captures in imposing images all that still breathes there – despite everything. The poetic work was awarded the main prize for best documentary at both the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes.
