He seemed to have finished with his career as an actor, but now Daniel Day-Lewis has rediscovered a taste for the profession.

Daniel Day-Lewis and Martin Scorsese stick to each other

During the last decade, the actor won an Academy Award for his performance in My Left Foot, had a child with Isabelle Adjani, spent some time in prison in preparation for The Boxer and then abandoned the seventh art to become a shoemaker in the region of Florence. After being a craftsman for the last four years, he is now back in front of the camera. Under the direction of Martin Scorsese he is currently shooting Gangs of New York in Rome. Also involved in the project are Leonardo Di Caprio, Cameron Diaz and Liam Neeson. In the past, Martin Scorsese and Daniel Day Lewis worked together for the superbly elegant The Age of Innocence. And they might team up again for In the Heart of the Sea, which adapts a book based upon the same events which inspired Herman Melville to his literary masterpiece Moby Dick and John Huston to his 1956 adaptation of the book: a nineteenth century whaler is struck by a sperm whale and subsequently sinks off the Chilean coast. Twenty members of the crew survive the disaster. For four months they are adrift in three small boats. In the course of their agony they are confronted with tormenting and haunting experiences of hunger and cannibalism.
