John Hughes, the director of 80's hits like «The Breakfast Club» and «Ferris Bueller's Day Off», and the screenwriter of «Home Alone», has died at 59.

«Home Alone» screenwriter dies

John Hughes made a string of teen movies in the 1980's, including «16 Candles», «The Breakfast Club», which spawned a teen genre that launched the careers of a new group of young actors – nicknamed The Brat Pack – that included Matthew Broderick and Demi Moore. A screenwriter as well as a filmmaker, Hughes went on to write the screenplay for «Home Alone», which was a smashing success all over the world and made Macaulay Culkin a child star. Hughes died in New York of a heart attack while visiting family. He was 59.
