Oscar: the winners

«Slumdog Millionaire» takes home 8 statuettes, Mickey Rourke loses.

Few surprises at this year's Oscars, which took place last night in Los Angeles. As expected, «Slumdog Millionaire» was the big winner, taking home 8 Oscars, and the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards went to Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz, for their performance in «The Reader» and «Vicky Cristina Barcelona», respectively.

In the men's category, the parents and the daughter of Heath Ledgerclimbed onstage to accept a posthumous statuette for his work as BestSupporting Actor, while the favorite Mickey Rourke («The Wrestler») lost out to Sean Penn for his equally remarkable role in «Milk».

And finally, Swiss director Reto Caffi did not achieve his goal of winning the Oscar for best short film, for his nevertheless excellent «Auf der Strecke».
