Conviction
For 18 years, a woman fights to get her brother out of jail.
Based on the true story of Betty Anne Waters, who came from a poor town in Massachusetts, and went back to school to become a lawyer in an attempt to free her brother Kenny, who had been unjustly accused of murder in 1982, from prison. For 18 years, Betty overcomes a series of obstacles: her husband leaves her, her children would rather live with their father, she becomes the victim of depression, barely scrapes through university and, once she gets her diploma, battles against the evidence and the hostility of the authorities…
Hilary Swank deftly plays the torn Betty Anne, who is ready to do anything to prove her brother's innocence: a brother who is so hot-headed and violent that few doubt he did the crime. Her determination is fascinating, as is the incredible energy and love for her brother that drives her. A homage to everything people are capable of, even if it doesn't seem possible.
