Dr Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) is known for his numerous books on psychology, but he has also proved hands-on talents in hunting down several people for the FBI. The disadvantage of such a reputation is that some disturbed individual might feel challenged to trick him with his own weapons. Feeling guilty for the death of his working partner, Dr Alex Cross decides that it is time to retire - but not for long. His ex-colleagues convince him to return into action, on his side a young female partner, to neutralise a dangerous criminal who has kidnapped a ten-year-old girl.
