Decline of the record industry: the movie!

Written by Steve Knopper, a music journalist who in known mainly for his work for Rolling Stone Magazine, the book «Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age» is being adapted for television by HBO.

Covering the history of the music industry and the many mistakes made by bigwigs in the industry in the last decades, Knopper's book begins with the decline of disco in the 1970's, and moves on to the choice of the CD as a medium in the 80's and 90's, how Michael Jackson's «Thriller» initially saved the industry, the arrival of Napster at the end of the 90's, along with other peer-to-peer platforms that kicked off music downloads, which have all led to the death of the CD and the decline of the record industry.
