Gerards: French cinema at its worst

Founded in 2006 as an equivalent to the American Razzies, the Gerards «reward» the worst French films of the year. Here are the unlucky nominees in each category:

Gerard for Worst Film: «Disco», «La possibilité d'une île» (directed by writer Michel Houellebecq), «Agathe Clery», «La Fille de Monaco», «Cyprien», «Parlez-moi de la pluie» and «Faubourg 36».

Gerard for Hopeless Actress: Zoé Felix in «Bienvenue chez les ch'tis», Emmanuelle Béart in «Disco», Sophie Marceau in «Les femmes de l'ombre», Catherine Deneuve in «Cyprien», Vahina Gioccante in «Secret défense».

Gerard for Hopeless Actor: Elie Semoun in «Cyprien», Richard Berry in «L'emmerdeur», Gérard Jugnot in «Faubourg 36», Cali in «Magique!», Jean Reno in «Cash», Gérard Depardieu in «Diamant 13».

Gerard for the director who always makes the same film, but each time of lower quality: Agnès Jaoui for «Parlez-moi de la pluie», not as good as «Comme une image», which was itself not as good as «Le goût des autres»; Etienne Chatillez for «Agathe Cléry», not as good as «La confiance règne», which was itself not as good as «Tanguy»; Francis Weber for «L'emmerdeur», not as good as «Le placard», itself not as good as «Le dîner de cons»; Cédric Klapisch for «Paris», not as good as «L'auberge espagnole», itself not as good as «Chacun cherche son chat»; Fabien Onteniente for «Disco», as bad as «Camping», as bad as «3 Zeros».

Gerard for the actor or director who talks of his/her film as if it was Fellini's latest masterpiece, even though you could probably do better with a Nokia phone and three friends in a drunken stupor: Antoine de Caunes for «Coluche, l'histoire d'un mec», Agnès Jaoui for «Parlez-moi de la pluie», Michel Houellebecq for «La possibilité d'une île», Elie Semoun for «Cyprien», Francis Huster for «Un homme et son chien».

Gerard for the film you weren't quite sure about before going, the watching of which left you with determined certainty: «Mes stars et moi», «Faubourg 36», «Agathe Cléry», «L'emmerdeur», «Le séminaire de Charles Nemes» and «Enfin veuve».

The Gerard ceremony will take place in Paris on May 12th, a day before the Opening Night of the Cannes Festival. Since its creation, not a single «winner» has gone on stage to claim their award.
